  • Where to go for a walk in Kraków? – a list of green spots

A walk through green Kraków – these are the places we recommend!

10 May | 2021

The Market Square, Kazimierz, and Kraków’s museums are certainly permanent points on the city’s tourist map. However, when planning a weekend, it’s also worth including the “green” spots in Kraków.

Below is our (subjective) list of walking spots in Kraków.

The oldest mounds in Kraków are Krakus Mound (near Wielicka Street) and Wanda Mound (Ujastek Street). Both date back to the 7th century and were likely used by their builders as places of worship or watchtowers. Legend has it that Krakus Mound is the tomb of Kraków’s founder, Prince Krak. Wanda Mound, on the other hand, is considered the grave of his daughter Wanda.
If you want to see Kraków bathed in the light of the setting sun, visit Krakus (Krak) Mound in the evening.

On the way to Krakus Mound, you can take a rest in Bednarski Park. Bring some nuts with you and keep your eyes open… the friendly squirrels will surely be happy to make friends with you.

The most popular of the mounds is Kościuszko Mound. It contains soil from the battlefields of the Kościuszko Uprising and the American War of Independence. Visit on a clear day and enjoy the beautiful panorama of Kraków (if the dragon/smog allows it 😉).

The tallest mound is Józef Piłsudski Mound, also called the Independence Mound – it is located in Wolski Forest. A walk to the mound is worth combining with a visit to the Kraków Zoo.

One of the most beautiful green spots in Kraków is Zakrzówek, located almost in the city center. In the last century, there was a limestone quarry there; today it is a crystal-clear lake surrounded by rocks. You can swim in it or, under the guidance of instructors, take a diving course and swim among underwater attractions – a sunken Polski Fiat 125p car, a bus, or a van!

The Botanical Garden is worth visiting at any time of the year. You will be amazed by the variety of flowers and shrubs. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, we recommend Jordan Park, which features a well-equipped sports complex with fields, tennis courts, and fitness equipment – there is something for everyone.

We also recommend the Park of Polish Aviators located near the Tauron Arena. The vast park area invites leisurely walks. After your stroll, you can visit the Aviation Museum, which houses an extensive collection of flying machines.

So, where will you start? 😊

We also invite you to take walks through the green areas of Kraków combined with a Polish language lesson. Under the guidance of our Varia instructor-guide, in the company of fantastic people from all over the world, new Polish expressions will surely be remembered quickly amid the beautiful, green scenery.
Outdoor lessons are an integral part of our on-site Polish courses.
